I have been training privately with Thad over the last year and a half and cannot put into words what an impact it has had on my life. Working with Thad outdoors in NYC is one of the things I miss most now that I live far upstate!

His lessons are filled with energy and humor and he embodies a deep understanding of the internal and external arts.

Thad is one of the most patient, articulate and accomplished teachers I have come across. I would love to guide you through this process so you can experience the transformative power of this method for yourself! I love seeing the confidence and sense of empowerment they exude as they realize these benefits are a direct result of their own practice. It is incredibly rewarding to witness my students change the way they instinctively move, evolve their understanding of their physical experience in the world and become more focused and present people. Since then I have developed a passion for helping people incorprate a Chinese martial arts practice into their lives at whatever level is appropriate for them. I got my first taste of teaching martial arts assisting a beginning Kung Fu class in 1994, and connected with it immediately.

Through working with him I also developed a keen interest for the medicine, apprenticing in his clinic for several years and studying his methods of Chinese medical massage. Tom is a Chinese medical practitioner as well as an accomplished martial artist. In 2011 I shifted gears and began training in a more internal Chinese style called Ba Gua Zhang under Tom Bisio, a teacher here in NYC. I ran a school here in the city called the New York Shaolin Center teaching that style from 2005 to 2011. I began training Shaolin Kung Fu in 1994, and currently hold the rank of 5th degree Black Belt in that system. I utilize both martial and medical skills in the Chinese tradition with clients in the New York area to achieve a number of goals - martial development, combat effectiveness, physical rehabilitation, postural realignment, longevity and mindfulness. Bisio is the founder of New York Internal Arts and International Internal Arts which trains the internal arts Ba Gua Zhang and Xing Yi Quan. In his interview with Chad, Bisio discusses the stages of sports injuries and congruent treatment protocols with acupuncture, herbs, and internal arts.My name is Thad and I have been teaching traditional Chinese martial arts here in the city since 2005. Tom Bisio is the author of A Tooth From the Tiger’s Mouth: How to Treat Your Injuries with Powerful Healing Secrets of the Great Chinese Warriors and co-author with Frank Butler on Zheng Gu Tui Na: A Chinese Medical Massage Textbook.
